SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) -The St. Joseph County 4-H Fair is giving folks a taste of summer with their Fair Food Extravaganza.

It’s your first opportunity to dig into your fair favorites ahead of the official St. Joseph County 4-H Fair that starts on July 1st.

They’re playing the hits to kick off the four-day event. There are five different vendors serving up everything from corndogs, to elephant ears, to freshly squeezed lemonade.

Some of the folks at the lemonade stand told us the best thing to pair their drinks with is a bit of sunshine. Folks who went to day one got to experience that perfect pairing.

The lemonade shakeups also go great washing down some fresh burgers and fries, maybe a Philly cheesesteak, or even nachos.

We spoke with one of the vendors who told us why fair food just hits different.

“I think it’s just when you think of fair food, you think of all the fun that comes with it and all the memories that come along when you’re at a fair. I think that’s what makes it special,” Lemonade vendor Kaiti Buffington.

You don’t have to look much further than this to satisfy your fair food cravings, and some people definitely have their favorites.

“I love the fried vegetables. Corn on the cob is always good. And of course elephant ears,” said fairgoer Su Besemer.

“The funnel cakes, cheesesteak, and lemon shakeups,” said fairgoer Annette Fox.

“I’d say the elephant ears. They’re just good and they’re just a classic,” said fairgoer Anilyn Soriano.

Gates are open for the Fair Food Extravaganza from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM on April 21st-24th.

There will be another Fair Food Extravaganza lasting from April 28th-May 8th at ABC Warehouse in Mishawaka.
