Tips for Homemade Lobster Rolls

There’s always a first-time trying out a new recipe. Which means that you might mess up a bit. However, with these tips for homemade lobster rolls, you can whip up finger-licking lobster roll even on your first try!

  1. When cooking lobster meat, follow my video and post on How To Cook Lobster Tail for succulent and tasty lobster meat. If you prefer boiling lobster, make sure to place the lobster in salted boiling water for not more than 8 minutes.
  2. I recommend using fresh lobster; however, you can use frozen lobster also. But make sure to thaw it completely before cooking.
  3. A combination of lobster meat from tails and claws works best for lobster rolls.
  4. Try using split-top England-style buns, but regular hot dog buns also work just fine.
  5. If you’re a fan of spices, add some hot sauce to the lobster filling.
  6. Don’t use more mayonnaise than recommended as it will overpower the sweet taste of lobster meat.
  7. The best kind of lobster for authentic lobster rolls is Maine lobster. But if it’s not available, you can go for rock lobster also. close up of a stack of lobster rolls showing the lobster roll filling and the toasted buns

FAQs

What does a lobster roll taste like?

Imagine the perfect combination of sweet and salty: The sweet taste of the lobster meat, combined with the salty taste of mayonnaise and seasoning.

What type of roll is used for lobster rolls?

The best and most common roll used for making lobster rolls is split-top England-style hot dog buns. But, if they are not available, you can use regular hot dog buns or even french bread.

Are lobster rolls better hot or cold?

Lobster rolls can be served hot or cold, depending on whether you’re using butter or mayonnaise. If you include mayonnaise in the salad, the right way to serve it would be cold. However, if you like buttery buns, serving it hot would do the job.

So, you can do a bit of a mix-up to try both. Serve some cold along with some hot ones and see which one is more popular among your guests!

What to serve with lobster rolls?

Many sides go with lobster rolls, the most famous being potato chips and lemon wedges for an authentic English taste. However, you can also serve lobster rolls with coleslaw, salad, steamed vegetables, corn on the cob, potato salad, garlic bread, and cherry tomatoes drizzled with vinaigrette. And, if you want to go all out, you can even throw in some bacon, and avocado slices.

Follow my recipe and tips to prepare the creamiest, most buttery, and flavourful lobster rolls ever!
