The Iowa State Fair is less than a month away, and those who plan ahead can save a bundle of cash on admission tickets, attractions, rides and food. The 2022 State Fair Aug. 11-22 is already selling advance tickets online and through the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office located on the front porch of the Administration Building on the Fairgrounds daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for walk up orders only.
Here’s a look at eight ways to save.
Buy advance tickets for the Iowa State Fair
Buying tickets ahead of the State Fair saves $5 on the price of admission. But tickets have to be purchased before Aug. 11, the first day of the State Fair.
Adult tickets, for those age 12 and older, go for $9 in advance or $14 at the gate. Children’s advance tickets cost $5 for those ages 6-11 or $8 at the gate. Children age 5 and younger get into the State Fair for free daily.
Buy tickets at the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office and online at iowastatefair.org. Tickets may also be purchased at participating Iowa Hy-Vee, Fareway, and central Iowa Price Chopper stores.
Buy a State Fair value pack
Buy a State Fair value pack and save $14 through July 31. Value packs include a reloadable Thrill Pass with five credits; one Ye Old Mill or Snakes Alive or Train Exhibit admission; one kid’s bungee jump or Krazy Maze; one Giant Slide; one Sky Glider ticket; four $1 food and beverage tickets; and one cup of Barksdale’s State Fair Cookies. The value pack goes for $20, valued at $34. This does not include the price of admission. Tickets are available online.

Buy Thrill Park passes for the Iowa State Fair
Head to Thrill Town and Thrill Ville with discounted savings on rides. Thrill Ville offers the newest amusement rides in a family-friendly setting. It’s located between the Grandstand and Ye Old Mill.
Thrill Ville is meant for the littlest fairgoers with kid-friendly rides. Thrill Town is located east of Gate 10 and directly north of the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center Lawn.
- Unlimited passes for $36: Good for one day of unlimited rides Monday through Thursday until 10 p.m. in Thrill Town and Thrill Ville (does not include games, but credits can be added for games). Find the wristbands online at etix.com.
- Advance tickets for $25: Includes 35 credits good any day of the State Fair on any ride or game in Thrill Town and Thrill Ville. Find them online at etix.com.

Buy Iowa State Fair food tickets
Score packs of five food tickets for $5. Each food ticket is good for $1 toward food or beverage purchases on the Fairgrounds. You can only get food tickets at the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office through Aug. 10, while supplies last. Food tickets are not available online.
Buy Elwell Family Park advance tickets
Save money on ATV/UTV races, truck and tractor pulls and the demolition derby by purchasing tickets before the State Fair begins.
Short Course UTV & ATV Racing: Kruse Motorsports is hosting the State Fair’s first ever UTV & ATV Racing Cup at Elwell Family Park on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (gates open at 9 a.m.). Adult tickets, for those 12 and older, are available for $15. Children’s tickets for those ages 2 to 11 are $10. Pit admission tickets are $25. Find tickets online.
Outlaw Truck & Tractor Pulls: Advance discounted tickets are available for the Outlaw Young Guns Program.
- Tuesday, Aug. 16, at noon (gates open at 11 a.m.) : Featuring modified 4WD Trucks, Super Farm, Light Super Stock Tractors, Light Limited Modified Tractors, Pro Stock Tractors and 3.0 Diesel 4WD Pickups.
- Wednesday, Aug. 17, at noon. (gates open at 11 a.m.) : Featuring Pro 4WD Trucks, Modified 2WD Trucks, 540 Light Pro Tractors, Diesel Super Stock Tractors, Unlimited Super Stock Tractors, Modified Tractors, Limited Pro Stock Tractors and 4WD.

Domination Motorsports Demolition Derby: This year’s Domination Motorsports Demolition Derby will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. (gates open at 10 a.m.). Adult tickets go for $15 in advance or $20 during the State Fair. Children’s tickets, for those between the ages of 2 and 11, go for $10 in advance or $15 during the State Fair. Pit lane admission tickets, for those ages 10 and older, are available for $25. Buy tickets online.
