Chicken wing truck Randle’s Kitchen returns to Sioux Fall after hiatus

Randle's Kitchen is returning to Sioux Falls streets after a three-year hiatus

It’s been three years since Randle’s Kitchen was serving up food streetside in Sioux Falls.

But the Sioux Falls food truck best known for its chicken wings is returning this summer, with a mother-daughter duo leading the charge.

“I’m super excited to return,” said Shona Randle, co-founder of Randle’s Kitchen. “We’re going to have the same great food.”

Shona is joined this year by her 19-year-old daughter Jordan Randle.

Randle’s Kitchen opened in 2013 and served “home cooking on the go.” The truck was well known for its patty melts, walking tacos and their fan favorite “Big Dave’s Wings,” which is a chicken wing family recipe that’s both sweet and tangy.

Big Dave's Wings is a specialty at Randle's Kitchen, finding a balance between sweet and tangy.

The food truck started because Shona and her ex-husband would bring their cooking to parties and reunions – and people soon after started asking them to cater and offered to pay them for it.

Food trucks weren’t popular in Sioux Falls when Randle’s Kitchen opened, and many people didn’t even know what a food truck was, Shona said. The couple was one of the first to renovate an RV.

“For us, it was just for fun,” Shona said. “If we didn’t make any money then we’d put the bunk beds back in the RV and take it out on vacation. But then it turned out great, and people have still asked me over the last few years when we’re coming back.”

Randle’s Kitchen is returning after being revamped, including a switch to propane, adding deliveries as a service and upgrading the menu. New menu items fried chicken baskets, a full breakfast menu and Sunday dinners. The Sunday dinners will change in theme each week, ranging from soul food, BBQ, seafood boils and other one-time offerings.
