‘QAnon Shaman’ rioter should be given organic food while in jail after going on hunger strike, federal judge says | Las Vegas Local Breaking News, Headlines

(CNN) — US Capitol rioter and so-called “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley should be given organic food while in a Washington, DC, jail, a federal judge said Wednesday, after Chansley went on an apparent hunger strike last week claiming non-organic food was against his religion and sickened him.

DC District Court Judge Royce Lamberth decided the accommodations could be made for Chansley because he had been fed organic food in detention in Arizona, and arguments about his adherence to Shamanism were enough to also convince the judge.

Chansley hasn’t eaten since last Monday, his attorney said.

“My client made it clear that while he did not oppose fasting, he was not in position to put into his body things that shamanism believes to be impure… things that suck the life out of your body,” Chansley’s lawyer Al Watkins said in court Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier this month, a federal judge decided Chansley,

Judge orders organic food be provided to ‘QAnon Shaman’ in jail

A judge on Wednesday ordered corrections authorities to provide organic food to an Arizona man accused of participating in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol while sporting face paint, no shirt and a furry hat with horns.

The order came after a lawyer for defendant Jacob Chansley complained that his client had gone the past nine days without eating because organic food isn’t served at the Washington jail where he’s housed.

Chansley has lost 20 pounds since being transferred from Arizona to Washington last week, said his attorney, Albert Watkins. Chansley, who calls himself the “QAnon Shaman,” considers eating organic food to be part of his “shamanic belief system and way of life,” the lawyer said.

Judge orders organic food for ‘QAnon Shaman’ Jacob Chansley, who claims his ‘shamanic’ beliefs require it

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth agreed Wednesday to a request from Jacob Chansley, the 33-year-old “QAnon Shaman” arrested for participation in the Jan. 6 violent siege of the U.S. Capitol, that he be served only organic food in the D.C. correctional facility. Chansley’s “shamanic belief system and way of life” includes a strict organic diet, his lawyer Albert Watkins wrote in a brief Wednesday, and if his client eats foods with “unnatural chemicals,” the result is “systemic responses that are not simply discomforting, but debilitating and, notably, dehydrating.”

Department of Corrections, said Tuesday it isn’t true that Chansley has fasted for more than a week. The Department of Corrections said in
